Habitat Orang utan in Borneo have been decreasing due to forest conversion for plantation, forest exploitation, mining , and settlement (transmigration). Moreover, there were also orang utan killing reported occurred many parts of Borneo. Conservation effort should be taken, and for that purposes is an urgent need to develop map of suitable habitat of orang utan.
Logistic regression approach was applied to estimate distribution of orang utan, that could be interpreted also as suitable potential habitat. The model employed binary data for dependent variable which was derived from Relative Presence (RP) data. RA data were constructed from village survey data using questioners. As for independent variable some biophysical data (Altitude, Slope, Road density, river density), and village based socio-economically (Potensi Desa/PODES) data were considered.
Logistic regression result showed that Altitude, Slope, and River density variables are significant to predict OU habitat. OU tend to distribute at lower altitude, relative higher slope and far from river. Overlay of the suitable habitat with recent ALOS PALSAR (2008) data showed that most of habitat suitable of OU already fragmented and converted into Palm oil plantation. Natural conservation area relatively still have compact habitat even though the area not free from encroachment and conversion.
